What could be better, than a day that honors human fuel?

It seems we just can’t get enough… G & L sure think today is special, so we are devoting a few days this week to the LUV of Coffee!

What is Coffee?

I know what you are thinking, what do we live under a rock? But many folks, have never tried coffee or are turned off by its robust nature; if you are wondering Y that is? The acidity, which is found in Coffee can cause those tummy rumbles, that deter many of us from drinking multiple cups of joe per day, you see scientifically Coffee registers as a 5 on the pH scale and that is what can activate that uncomfortable noxiousness.

Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, which are the seeds of berries from the Coffea plant… Because of its caffeine content, the beverage has a stimulating effect on humans, making it one of the most popular drinks in the world.

Yfact: Coffee cultivation first took place in Ethiopia and the earliest credible evidence of coffee-drinking appeared to have taken place, during the middle of the 15th century in the Sufi shrines of Yemen, where it was used in local religious ceremonies.

Coffee plants are cultivated in over 70 of the worlds countries, primarily in the equatorial regions of the Americas, Southeast Asia, India and Africa. The two most common beans are arabica, which is quite highly regarded and stronger and hardier, but less fancy robusta. Coffee is now considered one of the worlds major exports, making it one of the most valuable and traded legal agricultural commodities in the world!

Today we devote our day to putting aside that Tea bag and brewing a nice big pot of coffee! Y? Because… Today, September 29th is National Coffee Day!

If you think we are true coffee conaseaurs in the United States, I have some news for you, according to Euromonitor International we came in #25 consuming ONLY 3.1kg. per capita, which equates to 6.8lbs. equal to our friends in France … compared to the #1 bragging rights, which went to Finland who tops ‘The World’s Top Coffee Consumers’ chart figuring per capita consumption in 2014. In case you were wondering, those Finland folks… 9.9kg. per capita, 21.8 lbs… Sweden, The Netherlands, Norway and Slovenia followed to make up the Top 5!

Although Thursday October 1st is the official date, agreed upon by the International Coffee Organization, launched in Milan, the entire week is used by countries around the world to mark the occasion, and promote fair trade, by honoring and celebrating the world’s love of Cafecito, as we say in Spanish!

Some of our friends around the globe, who are also celebrating the LUV of Coffee today are… Australia, Canada, England, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, Japan, Taiwan and The United States!
