How To Croque Monsieur

For those who haven’t heard about a Croque Monsieur, Its the French version of ham and cheese but this one is loaded with yummy butter and lots of cheese. You have to try one at least once. While not all of us can go try this crunchy treat at a French bistro, we can make it at home.

What You Need:
1 1/2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp flour
1 cup of whole milk
1/4 tsp of salt
Pinch of ground pepper and nutmeg,
2 slices of Gruyère cheese
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
4 slices of French bread
2 to 3 slices of ham
1 to 2 tbsp Dijon mustard

What To Do:

1. preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit

2. Sauce time! It’s called béchamel sauce! Put the butter In a small saucepan set on medium. Leave it there until it’s starts to bubble.

3. Mix in the flower for a bout 2 minutes.

4. Slowly pour milk into the mixture and whisk it until it’s thick the remove it from the heat and add the salt, pepper and nutmeg.

5. Stir in the Parmesan and Gruyere then set the mix aside.

6. Put the bread slices on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven to your liking.

7. Brush half of the slices with mustard then add the ham slices and top it with another slice.

8. Pour the sauce on top of the sandwich and sprinkle Parmesan or Gruyere cheese on top.

9. Pop them into the oven for about 5 to 10 minutes until it the sandwich looks golden.
