If you’re a pet lover, there is nothing you wouldn’t do for your dog especially if they are suffering from something. If you’re dog is feeling sick, then a trip to the vet is in order but what about treating him or her for things which may no necessarily need a vet visit.
For instance, if your pet is vomiting or has diarrhea, you can help keep them hydrated by using pediatric drinks like pedialyte, according to PetMD. Opt for the flavorless kind and put it in your pet’s water.
Like with humans, chamomile helps treat various problems like colic, gas, an upset stomach or anxiety. Just pour a bit into you pet’s water bowl so they can drink it. It can help help alleviate minor skin irritations.
Speaking of skin, if you notice you’re dog keeps scratching and he doesn’t have fleas, try soaking them in a bath of warm water with ground oatmeal. Let your pet soak in it for about 20 minutes (if possible). This will relieve discomfort caused by skin infections, allergies or just plain old dry skin.
If your pet is suffering from fleas, then try spraying them with lemon water which repels fleas. It also has a great smell! To make it, pour boiling water over lemons and let it steep overnight then pour it into a spray bottle and voila! Pair that with a dosage of Brewer’s yeast in your dog’s diet and you’re good to go.
While these cannot replace the medical advice of a vet, they do help treat minor problems. If you’re pet continues to suffer from an ailment, visit your vet.
