Good Sunday Morning @TheYLife!
Today we are reminding you of some important events kicking off around the globe…
Ramadan: The feast of the soul began the evening of Saturday, June 28, 2014, and ends in the evening of Monday, July 28, 2014.
This time set aside by the Muslim faith is meant to help believers delve deeper into the purpose of their faith and embrace the beauty and truth that having faith entails. Muslims observing this annual holy month of fasting, hope to come out at the end of July transformed and a more connected individual after Ramadan, which is likely one of the most vital religious observances for the Islamic faith.
Some view the time of fasting, just merely starvation of the body, but most who practice Islam see it as an opportunity to nourish the soul, while gaining greater appreciation for the blessings you have been granted by God. Although the days include no food from sunrise to sunset… the spiritual development will take center stage all the while preparing Muslims for the daily pre-fast meal, called the Suhoor, the typical pre-dawn meal for Muslim families is followed by observing Iftar, the breaking of the daily fast at sunset.
Paris: Happy Birthday to the Eiffel Tower, who is turning 125 years young! After opening in 1889, the tower has become an iconic symbol for France, as it effortlessly peaks out amongst the skyline, in spectacular fashion, as everything does in Paris. But it has done more than just embellish the scope of the city, the Tower is attributed across the globe as being a physical manifestation of love and romance.
Engineered by Gustave Eiffel, it is estimated more than 250 million people have visited the Eiffel Tower since 1889 and it’s still going strong… attracting over 6 million people every year making it the most-visited paid monument in the world! Gustave predicted the tower would eventually become as beloved as the Egyptian Pyramids and @TheYLife we think he was onto something!
The best part of the tower? For Paris’s Millennium Celebration 20,000 light bulbs were installed on the tower, which illuminate each and every night and add a spectacular modern touch!
USA: BIG WEEK in the USA as we prepare to celebrate our nations Independence commemorating the Declaration of Independence, which was adopted and finally signed on July 4th, 1776! The 238th Birthday of the good’ol US of A will be celebrated on Friday with the traditional American pageantry of fireworks, parades, BBQ’s, picnics, political revelry and it wouldn’t be Americana without a slice of #ApplePie!
Don’t forget to ALWAYS remain thankful for the freedoms ensured to us by our forefathers!
TEAM USA is taking on Belgium’s Red Devils in the #FIFA World Cup! Belgium is coming out strong after 3 wins, to take on the US Tuesday at 4PM in Salvador, Brazil. We have a good chance in this Round of 16, but it is going to be tough… Belgium has the tact of assisting goals around the 70 Minute mark, so strategy is pivotal for Team USA from here on out.
#WorldCup Quick Fact:
During the Match if you hear the term ‘Stoppage Time’… this is referred to as the collected time throughout the Match i.e. injuries & water breaks… You see, since the clock never actually stops running this Stoppage Time is added on at the end of the game. The catch? We don’t know how much time we are actually talking about, until the end of the 90 Minutes!
