NBC is your home for all United States coverage of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and let’s get real here… it doesn’t get any better than watching Phelps, Lochte and Missy swim for Team USA greatness, right?!

It all kicks off Friday the 5th of August at 7:30p with the Opening Ceremonies of the 2016 Rio Olympics in Primetime. The ceremonies will be streamed LIVE from Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, to officially kick off the first Olympic Games ever to be held in South America.
The event will feature the traditional welcome pageantry and the procession of flags strewn in by the parade of international athletes, including Michael Phelps representing Team USA, since he was voted to be the USA flag bearer this morning!
The opening ceremonies are expected to showcase Brazilian culture in its best light, but under much scrutiny and trepidation. You see, Brazil is a state, which has come under much speculation leading up to these 2016 Olympic Games, due to the fact that they have mishandled the sanitation of hazardous waters surrounding Rio where athletes will be competing, their unstable government has nearly collapsed in the months leading up to the games and corruption scandals have splintered a nation bordering on economic disparities beyond that which we truly can grasp from the comforts of our couches. You see, these games, all Olympic Games are supposed to be one of its most exceptional moments in history, to unite nations and religions with one goal to compete for the love of athletic glory– having myself attended London Summer Games four years ago, I can tell you that the Olympic Games rare special beyond measure, but these games will be unique for their unhinged logistical rhetoric.
